Donate to Help a Horse!
SFES, a 501C3 since 2016, relies on grants and public donations to support its operations. One hundred percent of donations go DIRECTLY to the equines here. Our Board of Directors receive no salary or other compensation and our staff is a totally volunteer force. Our feed and hay budget alone currently exceeds $2000.00 each month. Add fees for the farrier to keep their feet trimmed, veterinary services for their medical and dental needs, medicines, supplements plus buckets, bowls, horse blankets, etc. the monthly total ends up over $5,000.00 per month. This does NOT include what we spend personally on infrastructure such as barns and sheds, underground waterers, fencing and such to keep the horses safe, comfortable and healthy.
Our first partial year in operation, (June through December 2016) we spent nearly $46,000. Our total in public donations? $6455.00. Plus we received a generous $750 from the ASPCA to help geld our Lunenburg Saddlebred stallions as well as a $500.00 gift card from Tractor Supply. The important thing to keep in mind is that rescuing, feeding, and caring for horses and donkeys (no mules yet!) is a very expensive proposition and is not something we could continue to support without help.
To that end, we ask that you be generous in relation to your ability. Every $5 means a world of difference. And it is not just funds that are needed. Consider donating your used horse tack or barn supplies. Also, horses are rough on structures and fencing. Donating building materials is a BIG help! Finally, donate your TIME! No horse experience required and training will be provided. Help us put up some fence or a shelter. Aside from training, riding, construction and farm duties, we need folks to just come out and spend time and touch these soulful animals. A big part of many horses rehabilitation is facilitated by interacting with humans. It helps desensitizing them and building trust. Not bad for the human soul either, by the way.
